About Danger Charters
Danger Charters has been sailing out of Key West's Historic Seaport for over thirty years, offering wind-powered eco-adventures that reach parts of the Florida Keys backcountry no powerboat can access. Their fleet of four shallow-draft schooners — the 48-foot Danger, the 52-foot Sarah, the 52-foot Danger's Prize, and the 57-foot Danger's Pearl with her distinctive red sails — draws just a few feet of water, allowing them to glide over seagrass flats and into secluded mangrove channels within the Key West National Wildlife Refuge. It is a fundamentally different way to experience the Keys, quiet enough to hear the splash of a tarpon rolling at the surface.
The signature Sail, Snorkel & Kayak excursion is a four-and-a-half to six-and-a-half-hour day trip that combines open-water sailing with stops at pristine reef sites for snorkeling and sheltered mangrove islands for guided kayaking. All gear — masks, fins, snorkels, and kayaks — is provided, and the knowledgeable crew doubles as eco-educators, pointing out marine life and explaining the delicate ecosystems guests are paddling through. The Wind & Wine sunset sail takes a more romantic tack, pairing a two-hour evening cruise with fine wine and gourmet appetisers as the sun drops behind the Gulf of Mexico.
Private charters accommodate up to thirty guests and are a popular choice for weddings, corporate retreats, milestone birthdays, and seasonal events like their annual Fourth of July and St. Patrick's Day sails. Powerboat day trips and sunset cruises are also available for groups that want the Danger Charters experience with a bit more speed and a BYOB option. With over five thousand Google reviews and nearly a thousand on Yelp, Danger Charters has earned its reputation as Key West's premier eco-sailing outfitter — a genuine alternative to the island's high-horsepower watersports scene.
