About Mountain Meadows Cross Country Ski Center
Mountain Meadows Cross Country Ski and Snowshoe Center is a dedicated Nordic skiing destination located on US Route 4 in Killington, Vermont, offering over 40 kilometres of groomed trails for classic and skate-style cross-country skiing plus additional ungroomed backcountry paths for snowshoeing and fat biking. Supported by Base Camp Outfitters, the center is built around the scenic Kent Lake shoreline and surrounding hardwood forests, providing a peaceful counterpoint to the alpine action at nearby Killington and Pico resorts.
The trail network totals 56 kilometres when you include the extended backcountry routes, with terrain ranging from flat lakeside loops suitable for beginners to hilly woodland trails that challenge experienced Nordic skiers. A 1.2-kilometre snowmaking loop ensures reliable early-season and late-season conditions. The base lodge offers a warm rest stop, and on-site rentals include classic and skate cross-country skis, snowshoes, and fat bikes — all at affordable day rates starting around $19 per item.
Mountain Meadows is a favourite among locals and Killington visitors looking for a quieter, more meditative winter experience. Skiing across the frozen lake on a crisp morning, surrounded by snow-draped evergreens and distant mountain peaks, is one of central Vermont's most underrated winter activities. The center also hosts moonlight ski events, guided naturalist walks, and group programmes throughout the season.
