About Whiteface Mountain Ski Center
Whiteface Mountain is the premier alpine ski destination in the Adirondacks and one of the most storied mountains in the eastern United States. Host of the 1980 Winter Olympics alpine events, this state-operated resort boasts the greatest vertical drop east of the Rockies at over 3,400 feet. Located just minutes from the village of Lake Placid, Whiteface draws skiers and riders from across the Northeast seeking challenging terrain and stunning views of the High Peaks region.
The mountain's rental shop offers a full fleet of ski and snowboard packages for all ability levels, from beginner bundles with helmets and poles to high-performance demo skis for expert riders. Lesson programs run daily for children and adults, with group clinics, private instruction, and adaptive skiing available through the mountain's ski school. Summer brings scenic gondola rides to the summit and a growing network of mountain biking trails served by lift access.
What sets Whiteface apart is its Olympic pedigree and the raw, natural terrain that serious East Coast skiers crave. The Slides — a steep, expert-only zone of natural chutes — are unlike anything else in the region. With snowmaking covering nearly all trails and a season that stretches from November through April, Whiteface provides reliable conditions and a quintessentially Adirondack mountain experience.
