About Wildwood Stables
Wildwood Stables is the official horseback riding concessioner inside Acadia National Park, operating from a historic stable facility on the Park Loop Road near Jordan Pond. They offer guided carriage rides along the famed Rockefeller carriage roads — the 45-mile network of broken-stone roads that John D. Rockefeller Jr. commissioned in the early 1900s and donated to the park, creating one of the most unique trail systems in the National Park Service.
Their primary offering is horse-drawn carriage tours lasting one to two hours, winding through mixed hardwood forests with views of Jordan Pond, Day Mountain, and the surrounding granite peaks. Tours depart multiple times daily from late May through mid-October, with special sunset rides and private charter options available. The carriages are authentic reproductions of early 20th-century designs, adding to the heritage feel. They also offer a popular "Tea & Popovers" carriage ride that includes a stop at the Jordan Pond House for the restaurant's famous afternoon tea service.
Wildwood Stables stands out because it's the only way to experience Acadia's carriage roads as they were originally intended — from behind a team of horses. It's a slower-paced alternative to hiking and biking that appeals to visitors of all ages and mobility levels, and the combination of historic atmosphere, stunning scenery, and knowledgeable narration makes it one of the most memorable experiences in the park.
