About Mt. Hood Meadows
Mt. Hood Meadows is the largest ski resort on Mount Hood and one of the most popular winter destinations in the Pacific Northwest, drawing skiers and snowboarders from Portland, Hood River, and beyond. Located roughly 35 miles south of Hood River on Highway 35, the resort offers over 2,150 acres of skiable terrain spread across 87 runs, with a summit elevation of 7,300 feet that delivers reliable snow from November through May. The resort's proximity to Hood River makes it the natural choice for Gorge visitors looking to add a ski day to their trip.
The rental shop at the main lodge carries a full range of ski and snowboard packages for all ages and ability levels, from beginner flat-base skis to high-performance demo packages with current-season equipment. Snowshoe rentals are available for those who prefer a quieter mountain experience on the resort's dedicated snowshoe trails. The ski and snowboard school runs group lessons and private instruction for beginners through experts, with specialized programs for children and teens.
Beyond the rental and lesson programs, Mt. Hood Meadows stands out for the variety and quality of its terrain — from gentle groomers on the lower mountain to challenging steeps, tree runs, and the expert-only Heather Canyon zone. Night skiing is available on select evenings, extending the riding day well past sunset. For Hood River visitors, a day at Meadows delivers world-class Pacific Northwest skiing with a remarkably short drive from town.
