About Green Mountain Trails
Green Mountain Trails is a volunteer-maintained network of approximately 25 miles of multiuse singletrack in Pittsfield and Stockbridge, Vermont, located just eight miles north of Killington. Built and maintained by a dedicated community of local riders, trail runners, and hikers, GMT has earned a reputation as one of Vermont's best-kept mountain biking secrets, with flowy bermed switchbacks, technical rock gardens, mountain stream crossings, and summit overlooks that reward the climb with sweeping views of the surrounding Green Mountains and pastoral valley below.
The trail system spans roughly 1,000 feet of vertical, divided among novice, intermediate, and advanced terrain. Highlights include an incredible stone staircase built by Death Race competitors that climbs to the mountaintop, and over 100 bermed switchbacks on the long descents that make GMT a blast for mountain bikers of all levels. The system connects multiple trailheads — including Riverside Farm and Amee Farm — enabling self-supported shuttle runs with minimal climbing. Hiking, trail running, and snowshoeing are all welcome on the same network.
The entire trail system is free and open to the public, supported by donations and volunteer trail days. For Killington visitors looking for a backcountry mountain biking experience away from the lift-served bike park, Green Mountain Trails delivers authentic Vermont singletrack through a landscape that feels worlds away from the resort scene. The biking and hiking season typically runs from mid-May through late November, weather permitting.
