About Kletterzentrum Innsbruck
Kletterzentrum Innsbruck (KI) is one of Europe's largest and most modern climbing facilities, serving as both a public climbing gym and the Austrian national training centre. Located on Matthias-Schmid-Strasse in Innsbruck's Pradl district, the facility opened in partnership with the Austrian Alpine Club and has since become a landmark destination for climbers of all abilities.
The centre offers a staggering 5,700 square metres of climbing surface: 3,000 square metres of indoor rope climbing across 143 lines, 1,500 square metres of outdoor climbing on three freestanding towers, and a dedicated 1,250-square-metre bouldering hall with over 200 problems. Routes range from beginner-friendly 4a to elite 9a+, with new routes set regularly by professional route setters. Day passes, multi-entry cards, and annual memberships are all available, and gear rental means visitors can climb without lugging equipment.
What makes the KI special is its dual identity — world-class athletes train here alongside casual visitors and families. The facility hosts international climbing competitions, offers courses for beginners through to advanced lead climbers, and runs a popular youth programme. Open daily from 9am to 11pm, it is one of the best wet-weather alternatives in Innsbruck and a must-visit for any climbing enthusiast passing through the Alps.
