About Monterey Bay Whale Watch
Monterey Bay Whale Watch was founded in 1992 by marine biologist Nancy Black, who holds a Master's in Marine Science from Moss Landing Marine Labs and has spent over 30 years studying killer whales and other cetaceans in the bay. The company operates from Fisherman's Wharf and has been named one of the top five whale watching companies in the United States.
They offer daily whale watching trips (3-4 hours), all-day expeditions (8 or 12 hours), sunset tours, and specialised killer whale search trips in April and May. Seasonal pelagic seabird trips draw birders from around the world to spot rare oceanic species. Private charters are available for groups wanting a customised experience on the bay.
What sets Monterey Bay Whale Watch apart is the scientific expertise of its crew — every trip is led by experienced marine biologists who contribute ongoing research data on local whale populations. Nancy Black's three decades of field research gives guests access to unmatched knowledge of whale behaviour, feeding patterns, and the submarine canyon ecosystem that makes Monterey Bay one of the world's premier whale watching destinations.
