About Black Ops Valdez
Black Ops Valdez is a mechanized skiing and riding operation headquartered at Robe Lake Lodge, 5325 Lake View Dr, between the town of Valdez and Thompson Pass. Founded in 2004 as a snowcat and snowmachine skiing service, it has grown into the local authority on non-heli and heli access alike across a permit network stretching from Valdez to the interior side of the pass.
The menu is the broadest in the region: heli-skiing billed by helicopter flight time for maximum flexibility, snowcat skiing, sled-assisted backcountry laps, and guided snowmachine tours for riders who want Chugach scenery without skis. Operating areas spread across more than a half-dozen zones — the largest permitted snowcat and sled-skiing footprint in the United States — which lets guides chase the best snow and weather on any given day. Guests stay at the six-to-ten-person Robe Lake Lodge with home-cooked meals and lake-front views.
Black Ops' pay-by-Hobbs-hour heli model and mechanized backup options mean fewer wasted down days than fixed-package operations, a real advantage in coastal Alaska weather. Its small-lodge scale and two decades of Thompson Pass experience make it a favorite of returning core skiers and riders.
