About Driving Creek Railway & Zipline
Driving Creek Railway & Zipline is one of the Coromandel's most loved attractions, set in regenerating native bush in the hills above Coromandel Town. Originally built by potter Barry Brickell to haul clay and timber, the narrow-gauge mountain railway has grown into a unique eco-tourism venture combining a working railway, ziplines and decades of conservation planting.
The hour-long railway journey climbs through replanted kauri forest over bridges, spirals and tunnels to the hilltop Eyefull Tower lookout, with panoramic views across the peninsula. Alongside the train, the EcoZip ziplines send guests gliding through the canopy, and guided conservation and pottery experiences round out the offering. Trips run daily year-round and suit all ages, from young families to keen photographers and nature lovers.
As a not-for-profit dedicated to native reforestation and wildlife protection, Driving Creek channels visitor revenue straight back into the surrounding sanctuary. The blend of quirky engineering, hands-on conservation and genuine Coromandel character makes it a standout half-day adventure in Coromandel Town.
