About SurfSup NZ
SurfSup NZ is a sustainable ocean-adventure company based in Whangamata, best known for guided kayak and stand-up paddleboard trips to Whenuakura Island, the protected lagoon better known as Donut Island. Operating since 2015, the team has built its reputation on small, eco-conscious tours that showcase the wildlife sanctuary while protecting its fragile environment.
The flagship Donut Island experience paddles roughly 600 metres offshore to the collapsed volcanic crater, where kayakers and paddleboarders glide through a narrow sea arch into a hidden turquoise lagoon ringed by cliffs and native birdlife. SurfSup offers both fully guided tours and self-guided kayak and paddleboard hire, along with safety gear, briefings and local advice on tides and conditions. Trips suit families, beginners and confident paddlers alike, with morning departures favoured for calmer water.
With a strong focus on conservation and Whenuakura's wildlife sanctuary status, SurfSup NZ blends adventure with environmental care. Its combination of guided and hire options, experienced local guides and access to one of the Coromandel's most spectacular natural features makes it a leading paddle operator in Whangamata.
