About Mount Hood Railroad
Mount Hood Railroad is a historic short-line railroad offering scenic passenger excursions through the Hood River Valley and up toward Mount Hood. Built in 1906, the railroad has been repurposed as one of Oregon's most beloved heritage attractions, carrying visitors on round-trip journeys through orchards, vineyards, forests, and farmland with panoramic views of Mount Hood and Mount Adams.
Their roster of experiences includes standard scenic train rides from spring through fall, seasonal holiday trains, murder mystery dinner excursions, and — their newest addition — seated railbike adventures that let riders pedal along the tracks on custom four-wheeled cycles with built-in motor assist. They also offer e-bike rentals from their Railroad Avenue depot for self-guided rides along the Hood River Valley. The trains themselves feature restored vintage coaches with open-air viewing cars, and many trips include narration about the valley's agricultural history and railroad heritage.
What makes Mount Hood Railroad special is the combination of living history and stunning scenery — riding through blooming pear orchards in spring or golden vineyards in autumn with a snow-capped volcano as backdrop is an experience unique to Hood River. The railbike addition has broadened their appeal to active travellers who want something beyond a traditional train ride. For families, couples, and history buffs visiting Hood River, the railroad is a must-do.
