About Rhody Surf
Rhody Surf teaches surfing on Easton's Beach — Newport's First Beach — the gentle, sandy-bottomed break at the foot of the Cliff Walk that has long been the best place in Rhode Island to catch a first wave. The school operates from its tent on the west end of the beach through the summer season, with the Atlantic rollers of Easton Bay as the classroom.
Lessons run in small groups with instructors in the water alongside students, and everything is included: surfboard, wetsuit, and beach parking. Sessions last about two hours, long enough to go from dry-sand basics to standing on whitewater waves in a single visit. Private one-on-one lessons are available for surfers who want focused coaching, and the soft-top boards and mellow beach break make the program genuinely beginner-friendly for kids and adults alike.
What distinguishes Rhody Surf is the pairing of spot and format. Easton's Beach serves up forgiving waves all summer, and the small-group, instructors-in-the-water approach means students get pushed into waves and corrected in real time rather than waved at from the sand. For visitors staying in Newport, the beach sits at the end of Memorial Boulevard minutes from downtown — an easy add to any summer itinerary.
