About Grand Marais Charters
Grand Marais Charters runs sportfishing trips on Lake Superior out of the Grand Marais marina, targeting the lake trout and salmon that patrol the cold water off the Sawtooth shoreline. Captain Gary Radloff Jr., a USCG-licensed skipper, has fished these waters for more than three decades.
Charters run aboard a 24-foot boat rigged with downriggers and modern electronics, trolling for lake trout, coho, and the occasional king salmon from spring through fall. Trips accommodate small groups — families, couples, and pairs of anglers — and all fishing gear is provided, so guests need only a Minnesota license and warm layers. Sightseeing cruises along the shoreline are available for visitors who want the big-lake experience without the fishing.
Local knowledge is the edge: reading Superior's temperature breaks, structure, and moods takes years, and a captain who has worked this stretch of shore since the early days consistently puts clients on fish where casual boaters find empty water. Departing straight from the harbor in the middle of town, the operation is one of the easiest ways for Grand Marais visitors to get out on the greatest of the Great Lakes.
