About Tuscarora Lodge & Canoe Outfitters
Tuscarora Lodge & Canoe Outfitters sits on Round Lake near the end of the Gunflint Trail, about 47 miles up from Grand Marais. The property pairs a classic Northwoods lodge and lakeside cabins with a full-service canoe outfitting operation serving some of the most direct routes into the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness.
Paddlers can book complete outfitting — ultralight canoes, camp kitchens, sleeping systems, and trail food — or rent individual pieces of gear to fill out their own kit. Round Lake gives quick access to the Ham Lake, Missing Link, and Cross Bay entry points, and staff build custom routes for everything from one-night loops to week-long crossings toward Tuscarora and Little Saganaga. Off the water, cabins, bunkhouses, and a campground let groups stay before and after trips.
The lodge has hosted wilderness travelers since the 1930s, and that long history shows in the details: entry-point advice grounded in decades of trip logs, well-maintained Kevlar fleets, and a base camp culture that welcomes solo paddlers, families, and scout groups alike. It is a fixture of the upper Gunflint Trail paddling community.
