About Hungry Jack Outfitters
Hungry Jack Outfitters operates from the shore of Hungry Jack Lake, midway up the Gunflint Trail from Grand Marais. The small, owner-run shop specializes in outfitting canoe trips into the eastern Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness and Ontario's Quetico Provincial Park, with the wilderness boundary just one mile away by water.
Trips can be fully outfitted — canoe, packs, camp kit, and food — or partially outfitted for paddlers who only need a boat or a few missing pieces. Staff design routes from nearby entry points including Clearwater, Duncan, and Bearskin lakes, matching mileage and portage load to each group's experience, from first-time families to hardened tripping crews. Two housekeeping cabins on the lake give guests a comfortable base the night before launch or a soft landing afterward.
What sets Hungry Jack apart is the depth of local knowledge: the owners have paddled this corner of the border lakes for decades and personally walk every group through maps, campsites, and weather before push-off. The result is a personal, unhurried style of outfitting that regulars return to season after season.
