About Kohala Zipline
Kohala Zipline operates the Big Island's only tree-to-tree canopy zipline, based in the historic plantation town of Hawi at the island's northern tip, about an hour's scenic drive up the coast from Kailua-Kona. Founded in 2011 by Rob and Cindy Pacheco, the course threads through native forest canopy above Halawa Gulch, with lines and suspension bridges strung between platforms built into the trees.
The signature Kohala Canopy Adventure combines ziplines, elevated sky bridges, and a rappel finish, with dual guides accompanying every group and a continuous-belay system keeping participants clipped in from first platform to last. Clear days serve up views across the Kohala Coast and over the channel to Maui. Tours run rain or shine — the forest setting makes even wet days atmospheric — and combination packages pair the zipline with waterfall swims and North Kohala exploring.
The tree-to-tree format is what distinguishes Kohala from tower-based courses: rather than launching from steel platforms in open fields, guests move through the actual forest canopy the whole way. Add guides who narrate the natural and cultural history of North Kohala, birthplace of Kamehameha the Great, and the drive from Kona becomes part of a genuinely full day out.
