About Alter Action Sandboarding
Alter Action Sandboarding is the original sandboarding operator on the Namibian coast, founded by Chris Jason and Beth Sarro in 1996. Based in Swakopmund and running daily trips out to the giant dunes roughly 11km from town, the company introduced professional sandboarding to Namibia and has since guided thousands of visitors down some of the fastest sand slopes in the country.
Guests choose between two styles: traditional lie-down boarding, where riders lie flat on a polished hardboard and rocket down the dune at speeds that can top 70km/h, and stand-up boarding using proper snowboards for those who want to carve the sand like a mountain slope. A typical outing departs mid-morning and includes accommodation transfers, all equipment, instruction, a light lunch and a video of the day's runs, returning to town by early afternoon.
Nearly three decades of experience, a genuinely professional crew and an unbeatable safety record have made Alter Action a firm favourite among backpackers, families and adrenaline seekers alike. It remains one of Swakopmund's signature adventures and a benchmark for sandboarding operations across southern Africa.
