About Community Boating Program
The Community Boating Program is a Port Angeles nonprofit that offers skippered sailing charters and sailing instruction on the Strait of Juan de Fuca, operating out of the Port Angeles Boat Haven Marina. Its charters give visitors and locals a chance to get out on the water under sail, with all proceeds supporting the organization's youth sailing education programs.
Charters are led by licensed U.S. Coast Guard captains who double as sailing instructors, aboard a fleet that includes a 22-foot Catalina Capri, a 38-foot Alajuela, and a 43-foot J-Boats yacht. Two-hour outings can be tailored as harbour cruises, hands-on sailing lessons, or sunset sails for up to six guests. Alongside charters, the program runs Learn to Sail courses, women's sailing classes, youth race teams, paddling programs, and a summer camp, making it a full-spectrum community sailing centre.
What makes the Community Boating Program distinctive is its mission-driven model: every private sail helps fund accessible sailing education for local kids. Guests get a genuine, captain-guided experience of the Strait's waters and the Olympic backdrop while contributing to a program that keeps sailing alive on the peninsula, an appealing combination for travellers who value giving back.
