About Evergreen Outdoor Center
Evergreen Outdoor Center is Hakuba Valley's most established English-language adventure operator, founded in 2000 by Canadian expat Dave Enright. Based in the heart of Hakuba-mura in Nagano Prefecture, the company operates four specialised divisions — Evergreen International Ski School, Evergreen Backcountry Guides, Evergreen Cycle Revolution, and Evergreen Paddle Centre — covering virtually every outdoor pursuit available in the Japanese Alps across all four seasons.
In winter, Evergreen runs ski and snowboard lessons for all levels at Hakuba's major resorts, plus backcountry touring and avalanche safety courses led by certified mountain guides. When the snow melts, the lineup shifts to whitewater rafting on the Himekawa River, canyoning through alpine gorges, stand-up paddleboarding on Aoki Lake, kayaking, and guided mountain bike rides through rice paddies and forest trails around the valley floor. Their signature "Wet & Wild" combo pairs a half-day of canyoning with a half-day of rafting — consistently their most popular summer experience.
What sets Evergreen apart is their deep bilingual expertise and two decades of local knowledge in a valley that hosted the 1998 Winter Olympics. Guides speak fluent English and Japanese, and the operation is built specifically to serve international visitors navigating Hakuba for the first time. With professionally guided eco-tours, a strong safety record, and activities suitable for families through to advanced adventurers, Evergreen Outdoor Center remains the single most comprehensive outfitter in the Hakuba region.
