About Island Lake Lodge
Island Lake Lodge is one of British Columbia's most celebrated backcountry lodges, nestled at the base of the Lizard Range just minutes from the town of Fernie. The lodge operates a premier cat-skiing program that accesses over 7,000 acres of untracked powder terrain across three mountain zones — Cedar Bowl, Steel Creek, and Taynton Bowl — with vertical drops reaching 1,200 metres. It is one of the original cat-ski operations on the legendary Powder Highway.
Cat-skiing packages include all meals prepared by the lodge's acclaimed kitchen, comfortable overnight accommodation, full avalanche safety equipment, and professional ACMG-certified guides who know every glade, chute, and pillow line in the tenure. The operation runs small groups of ten to twelve skiers per cat, ensuring fresh tracks and personalised guiding throughout the day. In summer, the lodge offers guided hiking, mountain biking, and stand-up paddleboarding on Island Lake itself, making it a genuine four-season destination.
Island Lake Lodge has built an international reputation for combining world-class powder skiing with boutique hospitality — gourmet dining, a wood-fired hot tub, and handcrafted timber-frame architecture give the experience a warmth that larger heli-ski operations can't match. For advanced and expert skiers chasing deep Canadian Rockies powder in an intimate, guided setting, Island Lake is one of the finest cat-ski experiences in the world.
