About Providence Whitsunday Sailing
Providence Whitsunday Sailing is a small family-run business operating Providence V, a classic 62-foot gaff-rigged schooner built from Queensland timber. Departing from Coral Sea Marina in Airlie Beach, they offer day sails to Whitehaven Beach, sunset cruises, and private charters aboard one of the most photogenic vessels in the Whitsundays fleet.
The day sail visits Whitehaven Beach with time to walk up to the Hill Inlet lookout and snorkel on the fringing reef, all aboard a genuine timber tallship rather than a modern catamaran. The sunset sail is a two-hour adults-only cruise with Aperol Spritz cocktails, a local seafood and antipasto platter, and views of the sun dropping behind the islands. Private charters are available for up to 12 guests, ideal for birthdays, proposals, or small group celebrations. They also run a cultural tour to Hook Island that combines Aboriginal heritage with reef snorkelling.
What makes Providence stand out is the vessel itself — a rare, beautifully maintained classic yacht that looks and feels nothing like the aluminium high-speed boats that dominate the Whitsundays. The crew are genuinely passionate sailors who raise the sails and let the wind do the work whenever conditions allow. For anyone wanting a slower, more elegant way to experience the islands, this is the standout choice.
