About Tunnel49
Tunnel49 is Fernie's multi-sport adventure company, operating from a base on Highway 3 at the edge of town. Originally built around shuttle and transportation services for the ski resort, Tunnel49 has evolved into a full-service outfitter offering whitewater rafting, mountain biking excursions, guided hiking, and winter adventures that take advantage of the Elk Valley's extraordinary natural terrain.
Their whitewater rafting program runs 13.5 kilometres of Class III–IV rapids on the lower Elk River, with professional guides, full safety gear, and post-trip shuttle back to the start point. In summer, Tunnel49 offers guided mountain bike tours and shuttle services to popular trailheads around Fernie, saving riders the grunt of pedalling uphill and maximising descent time on the valley's renowned singletrack. Winter offerings include snowshoe tours and resort shuttle services connecting downtown Fernie with the alpine resort base.
Tunnel49's strength is its versatility — rather than specialising in a single activity, the company packages multiple adventures into convenient half-day and full-day itineraries that let visitors sample the best of Fernie without juggling different operators. Their guides are year-round locals with deep knowledge of the valley, and the company's emphasis on small group sizes ensures a personal, unhurried experience whether you're crashing through rapids or cruising downhill on singletrack.
