About Whale Watch Experience
Whale Watch Experience operates the Pacific Explorer, a purpose-built whale watching catamaran departing from the Coffs Harbour Marina and one of the longest continuously running whale watching operations in New South Wales. With decades on the water, the family-run business has become a Coffs Coast institution for seeing migrating humpback whales up close in the waters off the Solitary Islands.
From June to November the vessel heads out daily in search of humpback and the occasional southern right whale on their annual migration, while from December to April the focus shifts to dolphin watching cruises along Boambee Beach, where a resident pod has become accustomed to the boat. Cruises are kept small — a maximum of around 23 guests — so everyone gets uninterrupted views, and the catamaran's expansive open decks offer 360-degree sightlines and plenty of room to move around as the whales perform.
The operator's long history and intimate group sizes are its biggest drawcards: guests get a personal, unhurried experience rather than a packed tourist boat, with knowledgeable skippers who have spent years reading whale behaviour in these waters. The purpose-built catamaran is stable and comfortable, making it a reliable, family-friendly way to witness one of the east coast's great natural spectacles.
