About Arctic Rafting
Arctic Rafting is Iceland's dedicated whitewater rafting operator, running guided river trips on the glacial Hvita River from their Drumboddsstadur River Base in the heart of the Golden Circle. Located about 90 minutes from Reykjavik near Gullfoss waterfall, the base sits on a converted farm on the banks of the river, complete with a restaurant, bar, sauna, and hot tubs for warming up after a run.
Their core offering is the River Fun rafting trip — a 7km paddle down the Hvita through class 2-3 rapids in the Gullfoss Canyon, suitable for beginners and families (minimum age 11). For more experienced rafters, they offer a whitewater upgrade on a wilder section of the river. Combo packages pair rafting with horseback riding, ATV tours, or Golden Circle sightseeing, and hotel pickup from Reykjavik is included with most bookings.
The Drumboddsstadur base has become a destination in its own right — the River Restaurant serves traditional Icelandic lamb barbecue and local beers, while the riverside sauna and hot tubs provide a quintessentially Icelandic way to end an adventure day. Arctic Rafting runs from May through September, with the warmest months offering the longest daylight and most reliable conditions.
