About Cascade Kiteboarding
Cascade Kiteboarding is a dedicated kiteboarding and wing foiling school based at 216 Portway Avenue on the Hood River waterfront, right at the Event Site on the Columbia River. They are the only kiteboarding school in the Columbia River Gorge that uses radio helmet instruction and jet ski assistance for every water lesson — a combination that dramatically accelerates learning and improves safety for beginners.
Their lesson programme focuses on private instruction, running from beginner through advanced levels. Introductory lessons cover kite setup, safety systems, body dragging, and first water starts, while intermediate and advanced sessions work on upwind riding, jumping, transitions, and foiling. Wing foiling lessons are also available for riders interested in the sport's fastest-growing discipline. All lessons include gear, wetsuits, booties, and helmets — students just need to show up. Instructors hold IKO (International Kiteboarding Organization) certification.
Cascade Kiteboarding's edge is their teaching methodology. The radio helmet means the instructor can coach in real-time while the student is on the water, eliminating the frustrating cycle of launching, crashing, swimming back, and getting feedback on shore. Combined with jet ski support for quick repositioning, students spend dramatically more time practising and less time struggling — making their lessons among the most efficient in the Pacific Northwest.
