About Cruise Te Anau
Cruise Te Anau is a small, family-run boutique cruise operator working the sheltered fiords of Lake Te Anau, New Zealand's second-largest lake. Departing from the Main Wharf on Lakefront Drive, skippers Chris and Erica run intimate, certified trips for groups of up to six, offering a personal alternative to the region's larger tour boats.
Their scheduled departures include the two-hour Discovery Cruise into the South Fiord, the quick one-hour Flyby Explore past ancient beech forest, and an extended three-hour Waterfall Adventure deep into the wilderness. A Cruise & Fly package combines time on the water with a scenic flight over Lake Manapouri, and the vessel MATAI is also available for self-drive boat hire for independent fishing, hunting and exploring. Private non-scheduled charters can be arranged for corporate groups, families and special occasions.
With certified local skippers and a deliberately small passenger count, Cruise Te Anau delivers a quiet, unhurried way to experience the lake's remote arms and hidden waterfalls. Guests get genuine one-on-one commentary on Fiordland's geology, wildlife and history, making it a standout choice for travellers who prefer nature-based tourism over crowded sightseeing boats.
