About Deep Canyon
Deep Canyon is New Zealand's original canyoning company, guiding visitors through the spectacular canyons surrounding Wanaka since 1994. Their booking office sits on Ardmore Street in the town centre, and the canyons themselves are scattered across the remote valleys and gorges of the Mt Aspiring region — a landscape of waterfalls, polished rock chutes, and crystal-clear plunge pools.
The company offers a range of canyoning trips graded from beginner-friendly to expert. Half-day introductory descents teach the basics of abseiling, sliding, and jumping into deep pools, while full-day advanced trips tackle bigger waterfalls and more technical terrain. All equipment — wetsuits, harnesses, helmets, and ropes — is provided, and trips are led by qualified canyon guides with swift-water rescue training. No previous experience is required for entry-level trips.
