About Fell Pony Adventures
Fell Pony Adventures is a unique Lake District experience that takes families and small groups on day-long and multi-day wild camping treks with native Lakeland Fell ponies. Based near Newby Bridge at the foot of Lake Windermere, the business is run by a family that has bred Fell ponies since 1957, giving them an unmatched connection to these hardy, beautiful animals and the landscapes they call home.
Adventures follow part of an old pack horse route through meadows, ancient woodlands, and open fellside, with the ponies carrying supplies while participants walk alongside or ride. Day treks depart from Staveley-in-Cartmel and explore hidden corners of the southern Lake District that most visitors never discover. Multi-day wild camping treks take the experience further, with overnight camps in remote fell locations. All treks are fully guided and no previous riding experience is required.
Fell Pony Adventures has earned a TripAdvisor Travellers' Choice award for the quality and uniqueness of the experience. There is simply nothing else like it in the Lake District — walking through the Cumbrian countryside with a herd of native ponies feels like stepping back in time. The family's deep knowledge of Fell pony heritage and the local landscape makes every trek educational as well as adventurous, and the pace is gentle enough for children and adults of all fitness levels.
