About Fly Fish McCall
Fly Fish McCall is a premier guided fly fishing service based in McCall, Idaho, led by veteran guide Ron Howell who has been fishing the region's rivers and lakes for over 38 years. Specialising in wild trout fisheries across the central Idaho backcountry, the operation connects anglers of all skill levels with the pristine waters of the Payette River system, mountain lakes, and remote high-country streams that define this corner of the state.
Guided trips cover a range of techniques and settings, from drift boat floats on the South Fork of the Payette to walk-and-wade excursions on secluded mountain creeks. Species targeted include native rainbow trout, westslope cutthroat, brook trout, smallmouth bass, and tiger musky. Full-day trips include all fly fishing gear, flies, and a home-made lunch, making them ideal for visiting anglers who want a turn-key experience without hauling equipment.
What sets Fly Fish McCall apart is Ron's deep local knowledge built over nearly four decades on these waters. His understanding of seasonal hatches, water conditions, and fish behaviour means clients consistently find productive fishing even on challenging days. The small-group format — typically one to two guests per guide — ensures personalised instruction and unhurried time on the water.
