About Lawton Stables
Lawton Stables is Hilton Head Island's only horseback riding facility, tucked inside the 605-acre Sea Pines Forest Preserve on the southern tip of the island. The stables have been introducing visitors and locals to the island's natural beauty from the saddle for decades, offering trail rides through maritime forest, past ancient Indian shell rings, and along scenic marsh overlooks.
Rides are available for all experience levels, from guided pony rides for young children to longer trail rides for adults and teens. The stables also host a small petting zoo and barnyard area where families can meet goats, pigs, miniature horses, and other farm animals, making it a popular stop for visitors with kids who want a break from the beach.
Lawton Stables stands out as a one-of-a-kind Hilton Head experience — no other operator on the island offers horseback trail rides through protected forest land. Their knowledgeable guides share the history and ecology of the preserve along the way, turning a simple trail ride into an educational outing that guests remember long after their vacation ends.
