About Lazy Otter Charters
Lazy Otter Charters is a family-owned boat charter and kayak tour company operating out of Whittier harbour — just a 15-minute drive through the Anton Anderson Tunnel from the Girdwood area. Captain Mike Bender has been running charters in Prince William Sound since 1994, building a reputation for reliability, small-group intimacy, and deep knowledge of the Sound's glacier-carved bays and wildlife corridors.
The fleet of three vessels supports custom sightseeing cruises, water taxi service for kayakers and campers, guided kayaking adventures, photo charters, and film support. Their most popular outing is the guided Blackstone Bay kayaking trip: a water taxi ride into the bay followed by hours of paddling among icebergs calved from Beloit and Blackstone Glaciers, with a beach picnic lunch and a short hike included. Kayak rentals are also available for experienced paddlers planning self-guided expeditions.
Lazy Otter stands out for its flexibility — unlike the large cruise operators, Captain Mike tailors every trip to the group's interests, whether that means lingering at a seal haul-out, chasing a humpback whale sighting, or finding a quiet cove for lunch.
