About Maligne Lake Cruise
The Maligne Lake Cruise is Jasper National Park's iconic boat tour, carrying visitors across the largest glacially fed lake in the Canadian Rockies to world-famous Spirit Island. Operated by Pursuit (Banff Jasper Collection), this fully narrated 90-minute cruise departs from the Maligne Lake Boathouse and travels through dramatic mountain scenery accessible only by water.
The enclosed, heated glass-walled boats provide panoramic views of granite peaks, ancient forests, and vibrant blue glacial waters regardless of weather conditions. Interpretive guides share stories of the lake's geology, Indigenous significance, and wildlife throughout the journey. At Spirit Island, guests disembark for photography at one of the most photographed locations in the Canadian Rockies — a tiny tree-covered islet backed by towering peaks.
Running since the early 1900s, the Maligne Lake Cruise is one of Jasper's longest-operating tourism experiences. The combination of accessible comfort (no hiking required) with genuinely remote wilderness scenery makes it one of the park's most popular attractions, and Spirit Island itself has become an unofficial symbol of the Canadian Rockies worldwide.
