About Merrick's Noosa Learn to Surf
Merrick's Noosa Learn to Surf is the longest-running surf school in the Noosa region, founded in 1995 by former Australian and World Pro-Am Champion Merrick Davis. Located at Beach Access 14 on Claude Batten Drive at Noosa Heads, the school operates year-round on the gentle, beginner-friendly waves of Noosa Main Beach — widely regarded as one of Australia's safest and most consistent learn-to-surf locations.
Lessons run twice daily at 8:45am and 1:15pm for ages seven and up, with all equipment included — from specially designed wide-body soft boards that maximise stability for beginners to fiberglass shortboards and mini mals for more experienced surfers. They also offer standalone surfboard and bodyboard hire for those who want to hit the waves independently. The warm subtropical water means wetsuits are rarely needed, adding to the accessibility.
What truly distinguishes Merrick's is the pedigree behind the coaching. Merrick Davis brings world-championship experience to every session, and his team of qualified surf life savers and accredited instructors maintain the same high standard. The school's three decades of operation at Noosa Heads have made it a Sunshine Coast institution, with thousands of visitors learning to ride their first wave under their expert guidance each year.
