About Mount Fløyen
Mount Fløyen is one of Bergen's seven mountains and the city's most popular outdoor playground, reached in minutes by the historic Fløibanen funicular from its base station at Vetrlidsallmenningen, just behind the Fish Market. The summit plateau, 320 metres above the harbour, opens onto a network of forest trails, viewpoints and lakeside activities overlooking the city and fjords.
At the top, visitors can rent hard-tailed mountain bikes and junior bikes to ride the trail network, with helmets provided, while the mountain lake Skomakerdiket offers canoe and stand-up paddleboard hire in summer. The area is laced with marked hiking routes of varying length, a popular playground, resident goats and guided walks, making it a genuine multi-activity hub rather than a single attraction.
What makes Fløyen special is how easily it combines wild, forested terrain with city convenience — guests can step off a funicular car and be on a mountain bike trail or paddling a quiet tarn within minutes. With cafés and the Fløirestauranten on site, plus year-round access, it serves both quick-hit visitors and those wanting a full day of hiking, biking and paddling above Bergen.
