Mt Lyford Ski Area is a family-run field reached from State Highway 70, about 26 km past Waiau, then 8 km of gravel through beech forest. It is 60 km from Hanmer Springs.
The mountain hires skis, snowboards and clothing and runs lessons, snow tubing at $40 an hour, dog passes and the Chamois Café. A 4WD shuttle runs from the village gate, and the field does not hire chains.
