About Niederhorn
Niederhorn is the panoramic mountain above Beatenberg, accessible via a modern gondola cable car from the shores of Lake Thun near Interlaken. Rising to 1,950 metres, it offers year-round outdoor activities with unobstructed views across both Lake Thun and Lake Brienz to the iconic Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau massif — making it one of the best viewpoints in the entire Bernese Oberland.
In winter, Niederhorn is famous for its 3.5-kilometre toboggan run from the summit station down to the Vorsass midway station, with sledge hire available at the top for CHF 18. The starlight sledging sessions every Friday and Saturday evening are a highlight — tobogganing under the stars with the illuminated peaks as a backdrop. Summer activities include panoramic hiking trails, ibex and marmot wildlife watching, paragliding launch sites, and a mountaintop restaurant serving Swiss specialities.
What sets Niederhorn apart from Interlaken's other mountain excursions is its quieter, more authentic atmosphere compared to the heavily touristed Jungfrau railway or Harder Kulm. The combination of easy cable-car access, genuine alpine wildlife, spectacular sledging, and 360-degree panoramas makes it a local favourite that many international visitors overlook.
