About Raccoon Mountain Bike Park
Raccoon Mountain Bike Park is Chattanooga's dedicated downhill and cross-country mountain bike facility, located on Raccoon Mountain just west of downtown. With over 30 miles of purpose-built singletrack ranging from smooth beginner flow trails to aggressive double-black diamond descents, the park has helped cement Chattanooga's reputation as one of the top mountain biking cities in the southeastern United States. The trail network was designed and built by professional trail builders and is maintained by a dedicated crew and an active volunteer community.
Trail categories include green-circle flow trails for beginners learning to ride off-road, blue-square technical trails with rock gardens, root sections, and moderate drops, and black-diamond lines featuring steep chutes, gap jumps, and natural rock features that challenge even expert riders. Shuttle service runs on weekends and during peak season, carrying riders and bikes to the upper trailheads so they can maximize vertical descent without pedalling uphill. A skills clinic program runs monthly, teaching fundamentals like body position, braking technique, and line selection to riders looking to advance their ability safely.
What makes Raccoon Mountain essential for visiting mountain bikers is the combination of quality trail building and proximity to downtown — you can ride world-class singletrack in the morning and walk to a brewery on the North Shore by lunch. The park complements Chattanooga's other trail systems on Stringer's Ridge and Enterprise South Nature Park, giving riders enough variety to fill a multi-day trip. Bike rentals are available through partner shops in town, and trail maps are posted at every junction for easy navigation.
