About Ragged Mountain Equipment
Since 1985, Ragged Mountain Equipment has been the Mount Washington Valley's go-to specialist for backcountry and cross-country skiing, stocking alpine-touring, telemark, and Nordic rental packages alongside trail passes to the adjacent MWV Ski Touring network. Founded by Rob Nadler in a small space behind Cannell's Country Store in Intervale, and joined by partners Cort and Cindy Hansen in 1986, the shop has grown into one of New England's most respected independent outdoor retailers while never losing its neighbourhood feel.
What makes Ragged Mountain truly unique is its on-site manufacturing operation: the company designs and produces its own line of technical outdoor clothing right in the Intervale facility, using state-of-the-art fabrics to create performance pieces that stand up to White Mountain winters. The same manufacturing expertise handles everything from large military and private contracts to custom repairs and one-off redesigns for individual customers — a level of craftsmanship that no chain retailer can replicate. Cross-country ski equipment, snowshoe rentals, and knowledgeable trip-planning advice round out the winter offering.
Located at 279 Route 16 in Intervale, just north of the Scenic Vista and directly at the MWV Ski Touring Centre trailhead, the shop occupies the ideal launchpad for a morning Nordic ski or a multi-day winter traverse of the Presidential Range. Staff are experienced backcountry skiers themselves and can recommend routes, conditions, and equipment setups tailored to your ability and objectives. For skiers who want to explore beyond the groomed resort runs — and support a genuinely local, made-in-New-Hampshire business while they are at it — Ragged Mountain Equipment is an essential stop.
