About Schweitzer Mountain Resort
Schweitzer Mountain Resort is the largest ski area in Idaho and the crown jewel of outdoor recreation above Sandpoint, rising over Lake Pend Oreille with sweeping views into three states and Canada. With 2,900-plus acres of terrain spread across two bowls, Schweitzer is renowned for its glades, deep snow, and uncrowded slopes, drawing skiers and riders from across the Northwest.
The resort runs a full rental and demo operation for skis and snowboards, along with a ski and ride school offering group and private lessons for every age and ability, from first-timers on the magic carpet to experts chasing powder. When summer arrives, Schweitzer transforms into a lift-served mountain bike park with flow and technical trails, plus scenic chairlift rides, hiking, disc golf, and a calendar of festivals and events at the village.
What makes Schweitzer special is the scale and the setting — a major four-season mountain resort that still feels friendly and laid-back, with on-mountain lodging, dining, and a village base area just a short drive from downtown Sandpoint. It is the anchor of the region's adventure scene and the reason many visitors discover North Idaho in the first place.
