About The BackCountry
The BackCountry is an outdoor shop on Donner Pass Road in Truckee that rents gear for skiing beyond the resorts. Its winter rentals cover alpine touring skis, splitboards, telemark and cross-country setups, and avalanche safety kits, along with resort ski and snowboard packages and demo skis.
The shop also sells ski, bike and climbing gear and has a summer rentals page. It is open daily from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., and rental gear goes out first come, first served unless you reserve it ahead.
