About UP Surf Coaching
UP Surf Coaching is a specialist surf-coaching school based on Rose Street in Raglan, founded in 2012 by instructor Andrew after he saw how many people wanted lessons that went beyond simply learning to stand up. The school is built around genuine technique development on Raglan's world-class waves rather than one-off tourist lessons.
Its programmes span every level: progressive three and five-day "Become a Surfer" courses for beginners covering paddling, wave selection, forecasting and equipment; structured novice camps; and intermediate coaching that uses in-water instruction alongside video analysis to refine technique. Lessons are kept to a maximum of five participants for genuinely personal attention, and the school also runs multi-day surf camps and guided surf trips both around New Zealand and internationally to destinations like Japan, Indonesia, Taiwan and the Maldives.
The emphasis on correct technique, small groups and a complete approach to surfing — from reading the ocean to equipment choice — sets UP Surf Coaching apart from standard learn-to-surf operators.
