About Volta Climbing
Volta Climbing is a purpose-built indoor climbing and fitness centre in Trenton, Maine, just minutes from Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park. Opened in 2022, the facility was designed from the ground up to serve the climbing community on Mount Desert Island and beyond, filling a gap for year-round vertical adventure in the Downeast region.
The gym features 4,500 square feet of lead and top-rope wall with 26 rope stations reaching 35 to 40 feet, plus 3,500 square feet of bouldering terrain ranging from 14 to 16 feet. A Kilter Board with app-controlled LED lighting lets climbers set and share custom problems. Beyond climbing, Volta offers cardio and weight training equipment, yoga classes, youth teams, summer and winter camps, birthday parties, and climbing instruction that bridges the gap between gym and outdoor crag.
What sets Volta apart is its commitment to community and sustainability. The facility runs on a 27-kilowatt rooftop solar array that offsets at least 80 percent of its energy use. Regular themed climbing nights — including Women, BIPOC, Queer, and Family sessions — make the space welcoming to everyone. For visitors spending a rainy day near Acadia, Volta is the go-to alternative to outdoor climbing on the park's famous granite.
