About Ambassador Guides
Ambassador Guides is Lake Powell's longest-running fishing guide service, founded and operated by Captain Bill McBurney — the first licensed fishing guide in Glen Canyon National Recreation Area. Bill has been guiding on the lake since 1979, giving him over four decades of firsthand knowledge of the reservoir's shifting structure, seasonal fish behaviour, and hidden honey holes.
They offer half-day and full-day guided fishing trips targeting striped bass, largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, walleye, and channel catfish. All trips launch from Page, Arizona, and Captain Bill provides rods, reels, tackle, bait, and fish-finding electronics. He tailors each outing to the skill level of the group, from first-time anglers to tournament-level bass chasers. His son and additional guides round out the crew during peak season.
Bill publishes detailed monthly fishing reports on his website, giving prospective clients a transparent look at current conditions, water levels, and what species are biting. He holds US Coast Guard, Arizona Game & Fish, and National Park Service CUA licences — the full set of credentials required for commercial guiding inside the recreation area. For serious anglers, Ambassador Guides is the benchmark operation on Lake Powell.
