About Artist Boat
Artist Boat is a Galveston-based nonprofit that runs guided Eco-Art Kayak Adventures combining sea kayaking, coastal ecology, and hands-on art instruction. Founded to promote awareness of coastal margins through the fusion of science and art, the organisation has become one of the most distinctive paddling experiences on the Texas coast, leading thousands of participants into Galveston Bay's wetlands each year.
Their signature outings are guided kayak tours through the marshes, seagrass beds, and rookery islands of Galveston Bay, including trips at the Coastal Heritage Preserve on the island's West End. A naturalist guide leads paddlers in stable sea kayaks while interpreting the birds, fish, and plant life of the estuary; midway through, a working artist demonstrates watercolour technique and participants create their own paintings of the landscape, with all supplies provided. Public adventures, private group trips, and school and youth programmes are all available, and no kayaking or art experience is required.
What makes Artist Boat truly unique is the blend of adventure, education, and creativity under one paddle — it is equal parts eco-tour, nature lesson, and art class. As a conservation nonprofit, the group also stewards thousands of acres of preserved coastal habitat, so every trip directly supports protection of the very wetlands paddlers explore. For a meaningful, one-of-a-kind way to experience Galveston Bay, Artist Boat is in a category of its own.
