About Badhuus Gunten
Badhuus Gunten is a lakeside watersports centre located on the sunny southern shore of Lake Thun in the village of Gunten, approximately 15 minutes from Interlaken by car or reachable by the BLS lake steamer. Set in a beautifully restored historic bathhouse directly on the water, it offers a range of non-motorised watersports in one of the most scenic lake settings in the Bernese Oberland.
Their rental offerings include stand-up paddleboards, kayaks, canoes, and pedalos, all available for hourly hire directly from the lakeshore. They also run windsurfing courses and SUP lessons for beginners, taking advantage of Lake Thun's reliable afternoon thermal winds. The centre operates from May through September and includes a lakeside cafe where visitors can relax between sessions on the water.
What makes Badhuus Gunten special is the setting — a quiet, uncrowded stretch of crystal-clear alpine lake with the Bernese Alps rising directly behind. While Interlaken's main watersports spots can get busy in peak season, Gunten offers a more relaxed and authentic Swiss lakeside experience that feels worlds away from the tourist hub, yet is easily accessible by boat or bus.
