About Canoe Country Outfitters
Canoe Country Outfitters is one of Ely's oldest and most established outfitters, operating for more than 70 years under continuous family management. From its downtown base on East Sheridan Street, the company outfits canoe trips into the BWCAW and Canada's Quetico Park across the surrounding two-million-acre wilderness, with a second gateway location on Moose Lake northeast of town.
The outfitter's complete packages include the guest's choice of canoe style, generous food supplies, and all camping equipment, so paddlers need only bring personal items and fishing tackle. A range of canoe brands is available, including lightweight solo models weighing as little as 36 pounds. The team handles the required BWCAW entry permits, trip routing, orientation, and detailed map preparation, reviewing campsites, fishing spots, and scenic highlights before each group heads out. Accommodations on Moose Lake give trippers a wilderness base at the water's edge.
Seven decades of family ownership have made Canoe Country Outfitters a trusted name for Boundary Waters travellers. That longevity translates into deep route knowledge and a smooth, well-practised outfitting process that removes the guesswork from planning a wilderness trip. Repeat visitors return year after year for the personal service and the outfitter's intimate familiarity with the lakes and portages of the region.
