About Wintergreen Dogsled Lodge
Wintergreen Dogsled Lodge is Ely's premier dog sledding operation, running guided mushing vacations from its lodge on Ring Rock Road at the edge of the Superior National Forest. For more than three decades the lodge has introduced guests to the northwoods winter by dog team, earning recognition as a top small outdoor business and praise from National Geographic for the quality of its trips.
The signature experience is a multi-night, all-inclusive lodge-based vacation in which guests learn to drive their own team of sled dogs across frozen lakes and forest trails, returning each evening to a warm lodge and home-cooked meals. The lodge also runs extended multi-day adventures that combine daily mushing with winter camping, shorter full- and half-day trips for those with less time, and specialty departures focused on photography, wellness, and Arctic-style expeditions. Cold-weather clothing rentals and thorough instruction mean no prior experience is required.
What distinguishes Wintergreen is the hands-on mushing model and its long-standing bond with its dogs. Rather than riding as a passenger, every guest becomes a musher, an approach that has drawn repeat visitors from around the world. Combined with its intimate lodge setting and access to some of the finest winter terrain in the Lower 48, Wintergreen offers one of the most authentic dog sledding experiences in the country.
