Coolangatta Learn To Surf is a family-run surf school that has been teaching people to ride waves at Rainbow Bay and Greenmount Beach for over 30 years. Located at the southern tip of the Gold Coast — where the surf is consistent, the water is warm, and the beaches are less crowded than Surfers Paradise — they offer one of the most authentic learn-to-surf experiences on the Queensland coast.
Group lessons, private coaching, and multi-day surf courses cater to all ages and skill levels, from absolute beginners standing up for the first time to intermediate surfers looking to improve their technique. All equipment — softboards, legropes, wetsuits, and rash vests — is included, and their fully qualified instructors hold current surf lifesaving and first-aid certifications. Lessons run year-round with morning and afternoon sessions to suit holiday schedules.
Three decades at the same beaches means the instructors know every sandbar, rip, and swell direction intimately, and they pick the best spot on the day for each group's ability level. The school's longevity speaks for itself — many of their customers are second-generation, bringing their own kids back to learn at the same breaks where they first stood up on a board.
