Escape in Action is Rethymno's specialist canyoning operator, taking adventurers deep into the gorges of southern Crete for rappelling, cliff jumping, and river trekking experiences. Founded by a team of local outdoor enthusiasts — including ultra-cycling athletes and village-born nature guides — the company delivers an authentic Cretan wilderness experience that goes well beyond a standard sightseeing tour.
Their flagship adventure is the Kourtaliotiko Gorge canyoning excursion, a roughly three-and-a-half-hour journey through towering cliffs, crystal-clear pools, and cave systems home to rare bird species. Participants rappel down waterfalls, leap into natural swimming holes, and trek through narrow riverbeds — all with full equipment provided including harnesses, helmets, wetsuits, and ropes. The gorge is just 22 kilometres from Rethymno, making it an easy half-day outing.
